05/05/2009 - Salans Recognised As Leading Law Firm In Central And Eastern Europe

Salans has been recognised as the leading law firm in Central and Eastern Europe at the annual Chambers Europe Awards ceremony, held in London. For the second time in recent years, Salans was awarded the Central and Eastern Europe Award for Excellence.

Beating competition in the category from Allen & Overy, Baker & McKenzie, Clifford Chance, CMS Cameron McKenna and White & Case, Salans was noted not only for its success over the last 12 months, but for its long-term commitment to the CEE region and its strong client base there.

With seven full-service offices in the region- in Bucharest, Bratislava, Budapest, Istanbul, Kyiv, Prague and Warsaw- Salans has been advising multinational companies, banks, investment funds and others in relation to their investment activity in CEE for over 15 years. This commitment ensures a client base equally committed to seeking out opportunities in the market.

Recent examples include advising ING Lease in a 75 million EUR loan to Portico Investments for the financing of its investments in Hungary, Czech Republic and Romania, one of the few cross-border real estate financings in the last six months, and advice to a number of CEE-based cash-rich investors and funds such as Black Sea Global Properties Limited, a subsidiary of Rompetrol Holding SA, for which Salans acted in connection with its cash offer for real estate investment fund Fabian Romania Limited.

Stephen Finch, Chairman, commended the team of lawyers and support staff who contributed to this honour, saying “the recognition is testament to the work and effort of our people working in and for the Central and Eastern European region.”

Salans is an international law firm with over 750 lawyers in 21 worldwide offices from New York to China. Salans is one of the longest established international law firms in Bucharest, with strong practices in the areas of complex financing, distressed situations, litigation and employment, to name just a few.
