PRESS RELEASE
British-Romanian Chamber of Commerce is encouraging cooperation between British nd Romanian companies to fight economic crisis
Bucharest, April 28, 2009. British-Romanian Chamber of Commerce has hosted on Tuesday, April 28 2009, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel from Bucharest, a debate on the main challenges British and Romanian companies face in the context of the global economic crisis.
The reunion, attended by representatives of British and Romanian companies - members of the British-Romanian Chamber of Commerce, enjoyed as special guest the Ambassador of Great Britain in Romania, Mr. Robin Barnett. BRCC has been represented by Brian Davies, as President of the Chamber, and by Anne-Marie Martin, its General Manager.
Great Britain’s ambassador in Romania has given a lecture on the theme “Economic crisis: challenges and opportunities for Great Britain, Romania and for the UK Embassy in Bucharest”, having provided an overlook on the outcomes of the economic crisis as they are felt by investors and on the manner the authorities and business community may embark on in order to might face these difficulties.
Mr. Robin Barnett has outlined that the target of any business community is to protect the crucial tools of the market. The representative of British diplomacy has rejected the practice of protectionist policies, which might appear attractive on a short term, but in the long run are extremely dangerous.
His Excellency showed the very good collaboration between Great Britain and Romania in various fields of activity and on various levels. Robin Barnett has reminded that Great Britain has a great experience in the field of public-private partnership, which he thinks it apt to bring significant benefits to the Romanian economy. Robin Barnett has also indicated the key-sectors which, in the opinion of the economists at the Embassy of Great Britain in Bucharest, may stand as opportunities for attracting structural funds: infrastructure, energy, agriculture, financing and consulting services.
In the same time, the Ambassador of Great Britain has encouraged the role played by the British community in Romania, particularly through charities, and has greeted “the important contribution of BRCC to the economic and social life of Romania and Great Britain“. In this context, Mr. Robin Barnett has congratulated the British-Romanian Chamber of Commerce for the Chamber of the Year 2009 Award, recently granted by the Council of British Chambers of Commerce in Europe (COBCOE) and has also welcome the tight collaboration between BRCC and the Embassy of Great Britain in Romania.
In his turn, BRCC’s president, Brian Davies, outlined that BRCC is among the most active and successful British organisations in the business field operating outside Great Britain.
The award obtained by BRCC, received during a ceremony held in London last month, is confirming the remarkable evolution achieved by the Chamber last year. The competition has been attended by 30 member-organisations of the Council of British Chambers of Commerce in Europe - COBCOE. BRCC scored the highest grades in all the four judged categories: Membership Development, Events, Sponsorship Achievement and Corporate Social Responsibility.
