A growing country needs significant development and maintenance of its transport system. This BRCC- British Expertise Business Briefing event will outline and discuss Romania's key policies and approaches to investment in sustainable transport, from both an economic and environmental perspective.

The Romanian Minister of Transport will focus on:

key transport hubs

motorways/ national roadways

underground/ tube lines

railways with extended services

building new and expanding airports throughout the country

Opportunities

The transport services industry is a key sector in Romania, contributing with approximately 10% to the GDP.

The Romanian Ministry of Transport will receive approved funding from the EU of EUR 724 million for the construction of two major national roads in Romania and there is plenty of room for additional investment; EUR 6 billion for 307 km of roads, EUR 8 billion for 800 km of rail infrastructure, EUR 2.6
billion for the Danube-Bucharest Channel and the funds necessary for the expansion of the underground rail network and high-speed trains, still to be allocated.

British companies can be part of these investment opportunities. Their experience and expertise in this key sector can add value and benefit to Romanian partners.

Event Registration

Attendance is open to both BRCC and British Expertise members and companies interesting in the opportunities offered by Romania in this key investment sector.

Further Information on the Transport Sector in Romania

Government strategy and specific objectives for the next years include:

Development of the railway system and highways and rehabilitation of major and national roads (focus on roads and railways)

Liberalisation of the market and continuation of structural reforms - the Ministry aims to complete the privatisation of the state owned companies

More competition in this sector is encouraged, as the transitional arrangements for transport in the context of EU integration come to an end

Strenghtening territorial cohesion at regional and national level

Increase the successful applications to EU funding, in additonal to the already existing projects that receive external funding from institutions such as the EBRD or the EIB

Key Facts:

Romania boasts 73000 km of public roads of which 14300 km are modernise

There are plenty of opportunities available to modernise the rest of the roads, which will benefit from EU funding, other external finances and from the state budget

Railway tracks: 11.400 km to be maintained
